No Country for Old Men is a noir thriller set in West Texas, telling the blood-soaked tale of a man on the run with a suitcase full of money being pursued by a number of individuals.
The film was filmed on location in New Mexico and Texas in 2006.
The look for Chigurh was derived from a 1979 book supplied by Tommy Lee Jones which featured characters in a brothel on the Tex-Mex border.
The film first screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2007. The film opened in limited release in the United States on November 9, 2007, and had a wide release in the United States on November 21, 2007. The film will be released in the United Kingdom on January 18, 2008.
Critical reception
Critics gave the film very positive reviews. As of November 22, 2007 on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, 96% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 141 reviews. On Metacritic, the film had an average score of 91 out of 100, based on 35 reviews. On IMDb, it currently has an 8.9 rating and is in 50 on their Top 250. The film is widely discussed as a possible candidate for several Oscars. Although highly touted, some commentators have said that the film's downbeat ending and the fact that like minded voters may vote for There Will Be Blood instead, may split the vote and allow Atonement to win Best Picture Oscar.
Roger Ebert gave it a four star review saying that the movie was "a masterful evocation of time, place, character, moral choices, immoral certainties, human nature and fate."
A rare dissenting voice was Jonathan Rosenbaum in the Chicago Reader, who while admiring the film's aesthetics questioned its moral culpability.

Also who comments that "fargo" seems like "no country for old man" you can see this note:
رد مقتبس:It may not seem like much on paper, but McCarthy’s novel is a winding tale that spins a heavy web of morality for its characters to maneuver, and though the similarities to the Coen’s earlier films are obvious (it could just as easily be described as “‘Fargo’ in the desert’), “No Country for Old Men” transcends these comparisons to become something much more. This isn’t just another notch on the Coen brothers’ career of exquisitely crafted crime dramas. It’s an American classic in the making, and the first must-see awards contender of the year.
and for real this movie rated R
رد مقتبس: The R rating is for real, as this film combines some very modern mayhem with a very believable setting---could be construed as glorifying violence of the worst kind. Definitely not family viewing for any but the most mature teenagers. The good guys do not always win in Coen pictures.
